Pee Dee Coalition

Pee Dee Coalition is a nonprofit organization in Florence, SC, dedicated to combating domestic and sexual assault, child abuse, and family violence. Serving victims across eight counties, including Florence, Darlington, Marion, Dillon, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Williamsburg, and Sumter, the organization offers a comprehensive range of services such as a 24/7 crisis hotline, emergency and transitional shelter programs, legal advocacy, counseling, support groups, community education, and prevention initiatives like the RAD and ROAR programs. Their mission emphasizes that ending violence is a community-wide responsibility, and they provide confidential, compassionate support regardless of race, age, gender, disability, or background. With over 38 years of service, they have supported more than 2,300 victims, provided 6,630 shelter nights, and educated over 15,000 citizens.

Founded in 1986 in response to a surge in violent crimes in the Lake City area, Pee Dee Coalition began in the donated office space of Florence’s Trinity Baptist Church with just a phone and a mission. Since then, it has grown into a vital regional resource, expanding its reach through satellite centers and specialized programs like the Elizabeth Pettigrew Durant Children's Center, which serves as a dedicated assessment and treatment hub for children suspected of abuse. Their Alternatives to Violence program works with offenders to reduce relationship violence, while their community education efforts, including training and outreach, aim to prevent future harm. The organization also operates a parent helpline and offers trauma-informed support, especially during high-stress times like the holidays.
