A building was erected that same year near where McLeod Regional Medical Center now stands. In 1924, the structure was remodeled to include guest rooms, a gymnasium, an auditorium, and a miniature golf course. By the 1960s, the focus shifted to serving families as railway employment declined. The local community incorporated the Florence Family YMCA in 1969. A full facility opened on the current site in January 1972. Subsequent expansions included a new child care center, a mini-gym, and a women’s locker room in the 1980s. A third classroom was added in 1994. A capital campaign in 2001 doubled the size of the facility. In 2016, the organization received a donation of 3.4 acres of land for Friendship Park. The site now features a playground, shelter, bathroom, and a quarter-mile asphalt track with outdoor exercise stations.

The Y offers swim lesson programs, sport leagues, exercise classes, and leadership programs. For members, the YMCA offers the Coached Approach to Wellness, a one-on-one program that includes nutritional and physical fitness lifestyle contouring, weekly wellness consultations, weekly weigh-ins, customized exercise programs, nutritional analysis, and orientation for Cybex and cardio fitness equipment. Additionally, members can access one-on-one training with nationally certified personal trainers.
