Johnston, the organization established itself as a sovereign jurisdiction. The first officers included RW Bro Wiliam H. Berney, RW Bro Moses J. Simonds, and RW Bro John W. Hall. Grand Master George E. Johnson filed Articles of Incorporation with SC Secretary of State F. L. Cardozo. The first ten original lodges included Union Lodge #1 and Hayden Lodge #8.

Masons possess a belief in God, are of good character, and share a bond of brotherhood that extends across the globe. Masons support their churches, families, communities, youth, elderly, widows, orphans, and education.
