Modern dance instruction is based on the techniques of Martha Graham, Jose Limon, and Lester Horton. Hip hop, tap, and musical theater classes are also offered to complement classical training.

The Cantarella Dance Competition Team allows dancers to advance their training with competitions and performances at various community events throughout the year. The Academy and Junior Company Program is a comprehensive training program for talented and serious pre-teen to teen students. These pre-professional classes accelerate talented students and expose them to nationally known teachers. Both the Academy and the Junior Company perform frequently in the Berkshires and in the Capital Region. Graduates of Cantarella have gone on to dance with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Albany Berkshire Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre II.
