Heartland Health Services - University is a medical center in Peoria, IL, dedicated to providing comprehensive primary care, women’s health, pediatrics, mental health services, addiction recovery, specialty care, and discounted prescriptions to individuals across Central Illinois. Serving low-income adults and children, minority populations, uninsured patients, and those experiencing medical hardship or homelessness, the center operates with a mission to remove barriers to care and improve health outcomes through equitable, high-quality services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), it is recognized nationally for clinical excellence, including a 2024 Health Center Quality Leader Silver Badge awarded to only the top 20% of FQHCs in the country. The center welcomes walk-ins during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is committed to being a Patient-Centered Medical Home, recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

Heartland Health Services was founded on December 10, 1991, by a dedicated group of volunteers who established the first clinic with minimal resources, relying on donated supplies, pro bono medical services, and support from Peoria’s three major hospitals. The organization was formally designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center on February 1, 2004, and has since grown into a network of health centers across the region. It operates as a nonprofit with a strong emphasis on community engagement, staff development, and patient empowerment. The center’s team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, mental health professionals, and specialists in family medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, podiatry, and psychiatric care, all committed to delivering coordinated, accessible, and compassionate care. As a Gold Level Advocacy Center of Excellence, Heartland actively works to influence policies that strengthen community health systems.

Located on North University Street, the clinic sits about a mile from Shea Stadium and a short distance from Quest Charter Academy and the Dry Run creek. It is situated near North Gale Avenue and within the Sunset Hills neighborhood, placing it in a central, accessible location within Peoria’s residential and educational corridors.
