Perplexity launches Personal Computer for Windows

Perplexity's agent platform, Personal Computer, is now available on Windows, bringing multi-model orchestration to over a billion devices.

Perplexity has launched Personal Computer for Windows, extending its agent platform to the world’s most widely used desktop operating system. Windows machines, which number more than a billion globally, can now let Computer operate across local files, Microsoft 365, and the web in a single workflow. The company framed the release as a way to extend multi-model orchestration beyond the browser and into the local environment where most enterprise work actually happens.

What Personal Computer for Windows does

Personal Computer is Perplexity’s agent product, and the Windows release lets it act directly on files stored on a user’s machine. Users can ask Computer to create or edit Word, Excel, and other local files. Computer can also locate files that have piled up in the Downloads folder and move them into the correct File Explorer location. Tasks started on a phone during a lunch break, such as updating a desktop Excel model based on the day’s news, can be continued and finished on the Windows machine later.

According to Perplexity, Personal Computer users have had the platform perform more than $9.4 billion in labor-equivalent work since it launched earlier this year.

Why Perplexity targeted the Microsoft ecosystem

The Windows launch builds on two earlier Perplexity integrations with Microsoft products. In May, Perplexity released Computer inside Microsoft 365, adding a native side panel to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The same month, the company rolled out Computer in Microsoft Teams, bringing the agent into the chat surface where team work happens.

Personal Computer for Windows is positioned as the next step in that sequence. Perplexity argues that because most enterprise work runs on Windows machines, much of that local activity sat outside the reach of AI tools that lived only in the browser.

Bridging local files and the web

Personal Computer can draft, analyze, and manage files directly on the Windows machine where work lives. It can also move between those local files and the open web in a controlled way, which the company describes as eliminating the local-web divide.

Beyond Microsoft 365, Computer connects to more than 400 additional files and tools through App Connectors. Use cases Perplexity lists include opening a local Word or Excel file, pulling in research from the open web, and inserting that research into a local document. An analyst working on a revenue forecast can have Computer pull in data through connectors for Snowflake, Salesforce, or HubSpot. Paired with Perplexity’s Comet browser, Computer can also fill out web forms, book appointments, and schedule meetings.

Taking whole tasks off the user’s plate

Perplexity describes Personal Computer as capable of reading a task list, deciding how to complete each item, and then acting across local files, Outlook email, connected apps, and the web. A user can ask Computer to open a local PowerPoint pitch deck, pull in the latest web data on their market and competitors, and refresh the charts and talking points before a meeting. Voice mode is supported, and a task started on a phone can be handed off to the Windows machine for completion.

Sample use cases by team

  • Finance: Build a quarterly board update from a OneDrive folder on Windows by pulling the latest P&L and cash runway from a local Excel forecast, rewriting the variance analysis section in a Word pack, and saving both back to the hard drive so the CFO can review on a plane.
  • Legal: Redline a purchase agreement from a matter folder in File Explorer by pulling defined terms and dates from a local Excel cap table, updating the definitions and schedules in the main Word contract, and saving everything back to the hard drive so the partner can mark it up offline.
  • Sales: Prepare a regional QBR pack from Microsoft SharePoint by pulling quota attainment and pipeline data from a local Excel export, rewriting the account summary slides in PowerPoint, and saving the updated files to disk so the VP can review them without a network connection.

Security and data handling

Perplexity frames Personal Computer for Windows as accuracy-first and enterprise-secure. Perplexity Enterprise does not train on company data. Before Computer takes a sensitive action such as sending an email or deleting a file, the user receives an alert and can step in. Files are created inside a secure sandbox, and actions are auditable.

Availability
