The clinic offers ongoing psychiatric care but also occasionally provides one-time consultations when appropriate. When possible, stable patients are referred back to their primary physician or another community psychiatrist.

Funding for the clinic is obtained from Dane County Human Services, Medical Assistance, Medicare, and private insurance when available. Individuals referred must have behavior, symptoms, or medical history. Preference is given to individuals who do not have a current psychiatrist. If the person does have a psychiatrist, that provider must be notified, and records obtained for review at or before the first appointment. Priority in timing of admission is given to individuals whose difficulties threaten their health, safety, safety of others, or ability to live in the community, with priority determined by need first, then order of application. The TIES Clinic is not associated with any HMO or the psychiatrist’s private psychiatric clinic.

For most patients, accurate assessment and effective treatment relies upon the active involvement of other caregivers. With the patient’s or guardian’s permission, family members, case managers, support brokers, residential and vocational support staff, teachers, AFH providers, and guardians are welcomed and encouraged to attend appointments and share information about symptoms and treatment progress.
