About Walk Your Plans Des Moines
Walk Your Plans Des Moines is an Architect in Urbandale, IA, located at 1500 SE 19th St Suite 255. The firm operates as a design and build studio offering life-size floor plan validation using immersive projection technology and augmented reality services. It serves architects, builders, business owners, homeowners, and landscape professionals throughout Iowa and beyond. The studio helps clients walk through designs before construction begins to identify layout issues, spacing problems, and design conflicts that are difficult to catch on paper or screens. Services include full-scale floor plan projection on studio floors and walls, furniture layout testing, and plan review for custom homes, commercial spaces, healthcare facilities, restaurants, and industrial planning.
The business was founded by James and Lorie Machamer to bring life-size floor plan validation to Iowa's construction and design community. James Machamer served nearly 23 years in the Navy with the SeaBees, Marines, and Operational Medical Units, receiving numerous citations. Following his military service, he worked nearly 13 years as a Senior Medic and Firefighter with the Des Moines Fire Department and served as a Safety Manager for a general contractor. His background includes experience in high-stakes planning, precision, and construction safety. Lorie Machamer brings decades of experience in team building, client strategy, and business growth from retail, hospitality, and leadership roles at national brands.
Sessions typically last one to two hours, though half, full, and multiple day sessions are available. Clients upload drawings or bring printed plans, which the team lays out on the studio floor in real time at life-size proportions. The immersive technology allows users to measure, adjust, and validate every detail at true scale. The studio accommodates custom home layouts, landscaping, interior design, and non-construction industries. James serves as President and Chief Experience Officer, focusing on precision, adaptability, and client-focused passion.
Walk Your Plans Des Moines applies its founder's military and construction safety background to help clients validate their designs before breaking ground.
