Founded in 1978 by Dan Dietrich, the company began as a small rural franchise with three employees and two trucks. After securing the contract for the City of Othello, which the company has serviced for over 30 years, CDSI expanded its operations. In 2004, the business opened a Transfer Station/Recycling Facility in Moses Lake. Following the retirement of Dan Dietrich, Michael Dietrich took over the business in 2012. The company currently employs 40 people and maintains 12 municipal contracts across four different counties.
