Free educational programs include NAMI Peer-to-Peer, an eight-session course for adults with mental health conditions taught by trained leaders with lived experience. NAMI Homefront is a six-session program for families, caregivers, and friends of military service members and veterans with mental health conditions, taught by trained family members of service members or veterans. NAMI Basics is a six-session online education program for parents and caregivers of youth ages 22 and younger experiencing mental health symptoms or diagnoses. Presentations and support groups are also offered. Lori Smith has over ten years of experience leading community service projects and advocates for mental health awareness. Susan “Susie” Ash has called SC home on and off for 32 years. She holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Metropolitan State University of Denver and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Colorado, where she specialized in domestic violence policy. NAMI Charleston Area delivers free education and advocacy to families and individuals across the Charleston, Dorchester, Berkeley, Georgetown, and Horry communities.
