About Charleston Jazz Academy
Charleston Jazz Academy is a music school in North Charleston, SC. The Academy provides individual lessons, group classes, summer music camps, and workshops for students of all ages and backgrounds. The school offers instruction in most instruments, as well as jazz band, focusing on expanding repertoire and nurturing skills in music and improvisation through an environment that emphasizes teamwork, creativity, and self-expression.
The Academy serves as a training center for music and jazz education, offering specialized workshops where jazz combo students can learn from Grammy Award-winning jazz artists and guest clinicians from institutions such as Berklee College of Music, Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, and the Manhattan School of Music. Many students have earned scholarships to the College of Charleston, University of SC, and Coastal Carolina University, with others performing at the Spoleto Festival and North Charleston Arts Festival. The Academy is committed to providing equal opportunities for music education, with scholarships available based on musical merit and financial need.
The Academy is located on West Montague Avenue in North Charleston, a short drive from the North Charleston Fire Museum and the North Charleston Performing Arts Center.
The Charleston Jazz Academy has distinguished itself as one of the region's finest training centers for music and jazz education. The institution was named the winner of the 2022 Best of Charleston awards for musical instruction and has been featured in Downbeat Magazine.
