SOWW, a 501(c)(3) charity, was formed in August of 2012 and was founded by five individuals made up of U.S. Military Special Forces Veterans, local businessmen, and avid outdoorsmen. It was started to offer thanks and fellowship to the men and women of Special Operations Forces who have sacrificed for the freedoms and safety of others, and its stated objective is to help bridge the gap from military service to the enjoyment of the freedoms they fought to defend. Its programs include Operator Reset Week, which addresses "Operator Syndrome," described as a cascading combination of negative effects specific to personnel who train and serve as members of the US Special Operations forces, with the goal of helping personnel overcome those effects, serve at full capacity, extend their careers, and deter long-term negative outcomes. SOWW retreats bring fellow service members together in a no pressure environment designed to allow relaxation and camaraderie, fostering communication and open dialogue. SOWW also partners with Baden K-9, a Christian family operated business started over 40 years ago, to provide needed service dogs to Special Operators. Supporters can donate, become a corporate sponsor, give charity auction items, or nominate themselves or someone else for a program, retreat, or event. SOWW states that it is in no way affiliated or involved with Wounded Warrior Project.
