With hundreds of diners having weighed in, it has built a reputation that comes from repeat visits and word of mouth rather than advertising. For a category as competitive as Mexican and Tex-Mex dining along the Grand Strand, that kind of sustained feedback from 739 customers is the clearest measure of how the restaurant is regarded locally.

Heritage Shores Nature Preserve, a natural island in the salt marsh with hiking trails, boardwalks, and observation docks, lies at the end of 56th Avenue North. The broader North Myrtle Beach area stretches along SC's coast roughly midway between Charleston and Wilmington, North Carolina, flanked by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Intracoastal Waterway to the west, with the heart of Myrtle Beach about 15 miles south of downtown North Myrtle Beach.

For diners in North Myrtle Beach and the surrounding Grand Strand communities, 5 De Mayo Mexican Restaurant offers Tex-Mex fare backed by one of the larger review bases in its category locally, a sign of a restaurant that has earned its place through steady customer traffic along the coast.
