Mount Pleasant Karate

Mount Pleasant Karate is a Karate Academy in Mt Pleasant, SC. It offers traditional karate classes for children, teens, and adults, with programs that include kids karate and adult karate. Instruction covers Tang Soo Do, close and mid-range self-defense tactics, and joint locking and grappling. The school serves Mount Pleasant and surrounding communities including Charleston, Daniel Island, and Awendaw. Master Glenn Arnold established Mount Pleasant Karate in 2003. He began training at the age of 10 and has practiced Tang Soo Do for four decades, studying under Grand Master C.S. Kim and receiving instruction from Grandmaster Dominick Giacobbe, founder of The Intercontinental Tang Soo Do Organization. Mount Pleasant Karate is a member school of the ITO. Sa Bom Nim Crystal Estey grew up in the dojang, began training at around three years old, and tested for her 4th degree master level in South Korea in 2016 and her 5th degree black belt in Tula, Oklahoma in 2022. Her classes emphasize detail, connecting the breath to the waist, and developing speed, strength, agility, and accuracy through cross training and drills. Sa Bom Nim Diane Bise began training in 2007, became a Kyo Sa (Certified Instructor) in 2010, and assisted Master Glenn Arnold for over 10 years in after-school programs at Mt. Pleasant elementary schools. The school describes itself as the only traditional martial arts school in the Mount Pleasant area. It has won Charleston's Choice, Moultrie News Best of the Best, and Best of Online Lessons, among other awards.
