Heluva Fish is a fishing store in Lake Wylie, SC, located at 4371 Charlotte Hwy Suite 12. The shop offers a curated selection of premium fly fishing equipment, including rods in all lengths and weights, reels, lines, leaders, tippets, flies, tying materials, and tools from industry-leading manufacturers. Dean founded the business after learning to love fly fishing on the Neversink River in New York, where early experiences taught him patience, attention to detail, and the value of disconnecting from noise to focus on the moment. He built Heluva Fish around those values, ensuring equipment earns its place on the river. Dean and his wife Jennifer are passionate about outdoor sports and help customers find the perfect setup, sharing local knowledge on where to find the best hatches. Their product choices and customer service are guided by personal use and extensive research, with a belief that even budget items need to be reliable.

The business has a long history of growth that began with Helacious, a pocket knife retail company. It started in a single rented office and a website, then opened its first physical store in York, SC, in a building only nine feet wide and fifty feet long. The counters had to be brought in through the doors because they were too narrow to move them inside. The company expanded into firearms and suppressors, and Jennifer began tying custom knife lanyards. After moving to a larger building in Lake Wylie, the business added CWP classes, onboarded more vendors, and hired its first employee. Today, Heluva Fish employs two people and offers a full selection of fishing gear, continuing to build a premium fly shop.

The store provides expert advice and a curated selection of products for local anglers. Dean and Jennifer’s personal use and research guide their product choices and customer service.
