Southern Environmental Law Center

Southern Environmental Law Center is an environmental organization in Charleston, SC. As a nonprofit and nonpartisan advocate, the organization works to protect air, water, climate, wildlife, and lands. Serving the South and the country, the center utilizes a team of lawyers, policy and issue experts, and community partners to address complex environmental challenges.

The organization is the largest environmental advocate in its region, with a history dating back to 1986. The staff includes over 250 members, featuring more than 160 legal and policy experts and advocates distributed across nine offices in six states and Washington, D.C. The center's mission is centered on preserving natural treasures and biodiversity while ensuring a healthy environment for all.

Located on E Bay St, the office is a short walk from the Charleston County Public Library and the East Bay Street Station. The area is also near the Susie Jackson Freedom Memorial Garden and historical landmarks such as the Liberty Tree and the Vanderhorst Mansion.
