With a perfect 5.00 rating based on 9 reviews, SaferBoater stands among the strongest in its category locally and has earned a solid reputation among the customers it has served.

The business operates as a non-profit foundation dedicated to enhancing boater education on some of the busiest waterways on the East Coast. SaferBoater utilizes American National On-Water Standards (NOWS) and partners with insurers to deliver standardized curricula that address critical safety gaps, such as the high rate of boating fatalities involving operators with no formal training. The training covers essential skills including the rules of the road, vessel handling, and practical maneuvers like docking, anchoring, and night operations.

Courses are tailored to specific vessel sizes and goals, ranging from small powerboat skipper training for boats up to 30 feet to advanced programs for cruisers and yachts exceeding 64 feet. SaferBoater also offers specialized instruction for women, featuring all-female classes taught by certified female captains, as well as a Bareboat Charter Master program that prepares students for international charters in Europe and beyond. Refresher courses are available for experienced boaters looking to sharpen their skills in areas such as trailer backing and open-water handling.

The organization’s instructors are vetted professionals, many of whom have backgrounds in the military, fire, or law enforcement. SaferBoater provides the customers, technology, and insurance coverage for these instructors, who earn money on their own schedules while helping thousands of boaters gain the competence needed to operate vessels safely. This approach aims to reduce accidents and ensure that boating remains a safe and enjoyable activity for families and friends.

By focusing on practical, hands-on education, SaferBoater helps Charleston boaters navigate local waterways with the confidence and skill necessary to avoid common hazards and enjoy their time on the water.

The business is situated on Lockwood Drive, just a tenth of a mile from Alberta Sottile Long Lake and Alberta Long Lake Park. It is also within easy walking distance of Safe Harbor Marina and the Charleston Yacht Club.
