Michelle Irene Amaya, MD, MPH

Michelle Irene Amaya, MD, MPH is a Psychiatrist in Charleston, SC. She is a physician faculty member of the Division of General Pediatrics at MUSC Children's Health University Pediatrics - Rutledge Tower. Dr. Amaya serves as the Medical Director of the Newborn Nursery and works with resident and student learners in both the Newborn Nursery and the Pediatric Primary Care clinic. Her clinical and research interests include newborn care, breastfeeding, child mental health, and child and family safety. She completed medical school and Pediatric Residency training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by a fellowship in General Academic Pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she also obtained a master's in public health in maternal and child health.

The practice is located at 135 Rutledge Avenue on the 3rd Floor of Rutledge Tower. The site sits on Rutledge Ave, just off Calhoun Street. It is a short walk from Cannon Park, the Ashley Hall school, and the Rivers Library, all within a quarter mile of the entrance.

Dr. Amaya accepts a wide range of insurance plans, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and various Medicare and Medicaid options. Her office coordinates care for newborns and children, supporting families through early developmental stages and primary care needs in the Charleston area.
