About College of Charleston Basketball Camp
College of Charleston Basketball Camp is a basketball club in Charleston, SC. Held each year at TD Arena, the camp is designed to teach players the fundamentals of basketball through high-energy instruction. The program is open to all entrants, limited only by number, age, grade/level, and/or gender.
Head coach John Groce leads the staff in his first season with the College of Charleston Men’s Basketball program. Groce brings extensive Division I experience, including nine seasons as head coach at the University of Akron, where he led the Zips to three straight Mid-American Conference Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. His career record stands at 379-226, and he earned accolades such as the 2025 Hugh Durham National Mid-Major Coach of the Year and MAC Coach of the Year. Prior to Akron, Groce coached at the University of Illinois, Ohio University, and Ohio State, where he helped advance to the NCAA Championship game. He is a Danville, Indiana native who graduated from Taylor University with a degree in Mathematics.
Participants receive a detailed player evaluation with a strengths and weaknesses report. The camp provides pizza, Powerade, and snacks every day. A canteen bank holds money for participants throughout the week, and children are welcome to pack their own lunches.
