Weavetec Inc. is a specialty weaver owned and managed by the Pennington family that has operated in Upstate SC since 1987. Our family has worked in the textile industry for over 90 years. Weavetec offers specialty, industrial and home furnishing woven fabrics that are manufactured using dobby and jacquard looms. Weavetec began in 1987 when Harold Pennington, Sr. and Haskell Mallory started a small commission weaving operation in Spartanburg, SC. Harold, Sr. graduated from Clemson University in 1965 with a degree in Textile Management and spent the next 22 years working with Burlington Industries and Wendell Fabrics. Haskell worked with Lawson Hemphill and Wendell Fabrics as well prior to starting Weavetec. Weavetec initially operated 2 Dornier Dobby looms in a small leased space. By 1990, Weavetec had expanded its dobby upholstery manufacturing base and purchased its first jacquard loom to weave throws. By 1992, Weavetec had added an additional weaving facility in Blacksburg, SC. The Blacksburg facility was eventually named the “Charles N. McDaniel Plant” in honor of longtime employee and plant manager “Nubert” McDaniel. In 1994 Weavetec merged with Innovative Technology. By 1995, the niche throw business had peaked. In October 1995, the original partnership culminated with Weavetec purchasing Simply Country. In 2001, the Pennington family purchased Mr. Mallory’s ownership in Weavetec. Today, Harold Pennington Jr. serves as Vice President. His sister, Paula Cobb, is Controller, and his wife, Laurinda Pennington, serves as Customer Service Manager. Weavetec operates Dornier rapier dobby looms, providing flexibility to produce a wide variety of woven fabrics. Our loom widths range from 190-220 cm and support complex weaving setups with multiple harnesses and filling selectors. Using Dornier rapier technology, we produce everything from basic weave structures, such as tabby, twill, satin and basket weaves, to complex novelty and multi-layer constructions. Weavetec operates Dornier looms equipped with Stäubli and Grosse jacquard heads, configured with industry-standard harness setups and construction options. We also offer extensive yarn flexibility. Our filling insertion systems accommodate a wide range of yarn types, including specialty yarns such as chenille and bouclé. Weavetec utilizes Benninger sectional warpers, enabling us to process a wide range of yarn sizes, end-counts, and pattern layouts with precision and efficiency for sectional warping. Weavetec manufactures premium woven throw and tapestry blankets entirely in-house in Blacksburg, SC.
