The business was founded in 1965 by Rocco Femia and Anthony Chiffy, who met at Albany College of Pharmacy and previously worked at Daw’s Drug Stores. Starting with a staff of four, the company has grown to employ over 160 people, including 16 pharmacists, eight of whom are family members. The Femia and Chiffy families continue to own and operate the business, which fills more than 12,000 prescriptions per week.

The pharmacy operates three stores: the original location on Albany Street and Culver Avenue, a second store opened in 1989 at Chanatry’s Plaza on French Road, and a third opened in 2008 at the corner of Leland Avenue and Herkimer Road in the Big Lots Plaza. Parkway Drugs offers free prescription delivery seven days a week using ten delivery cars that service all of Utica and surrounding areas. Customers can also use the Parkway Mobile App for one-tap prescription refills. Additional services include vaccinations, a wellness program, grocery items, and two United States Postal Sub-stations. The business also allows customers to pay household bills for water, gas, electric, cable, and telephone.

Parkway Drugs accepts all OTC Network cards, including Wellcare, S3 Cards, and United Healthcare. They provide pet pharmacy services and can prepare maintenance medications on the same day each month for convenience. The pharmacies are open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on holidays.
