Greenwich Ballet Academy

Founded in 2006, Greenwich Ballet Academy is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors. The board includes Chairman and Executive Director Patricia Franklin, Vice President and Secretary Nerlyn Pierson, Treasurer Bob Zapata, and directors Sarah Becker, Angela Ho, Marianne Love, Motoko Gueler, and Bhumi Zaveri. The academy was established by a group of parents seeking higher-level ballet instruction than was available locally. Its mission is to nurture talented young students toward careers in professional ballet and optimize college aspirations through superior technique, artistry, and stage presence. The faculty consists of professionals with extensive classical and contemporary dance experience who have performed in principal roles with renowned companies worldwide. Principal instructors include Olga Gershanok and Adrienne Schulte for ballet technique, and Cody Berkeley for contemporary technique. Other faculty members include Anne Milewski Cary, Sophia Gaponova, Jeanne Hendrickson, Andrei Jouravlev, Maria Jose Esquivel Losada, Melanie Seastone, and Sean Stewart. Staff includes Program Coordinator Fenella (Ella) Kiley. The academy promotes a positive environment that develops exceptional dance skills, overall health, fitness, self-confidence, and leadership.

Admission and placement for Levels 1A and above are by audition only, assessing technique, flexibility, balance, coordination, physical attributes, and musicality. Auditions are by appointment. Registration for Early Prep, Pre-Academy 1, and Pre-Academy 2 does not require an audition; students can enroll directly online. After an audition, families are generally notified within 24 hours of their child’s level. The Executive Director and faculty reserve the right to adjust placement levels. If all class assignments are filled, students are placed on a waiting list. The academy has served the area for many years, maintaining a reputation for high-level instruction.
