International Community High School

International Community High School is a high school in the Bronx, NY. Established in 2006 as the eighth school in the International Network for Public Schools, it is a progressive public institution dedicated exclusively to educating multilingual learners. The student body represents over 30 different countries and includes speakers of Spanish, French, Arabic, Bangla, Garifuna, Fulani, Wolof, and Soninke. The school serves recently arrived immigrant youth by helping them develop linguistic, cognitive, and cultural skills necessary for success in high school, college, and beyond. Under the leadership of Principal Berena Cabarcas, who has served in the role since the school's commencement, the institution operates as a Performance-Based School. This approach allows students to demonstrate their skills through research and presentation rather than high-stakes Regents exams.

The school’s curriculum is built on project-based learning and interdisciplinary teams that foster collaborative English language development. Students engage in literacy-rich content area studies and receive post-secondary preparation from ninth through twelfth grade. Counselors and teachers guide students through college and career information to help them make informed decisions for their lives after high school. The school reports that 100% of students participate in community-based learning, internships, and personalized advisory classes. Additionally, 90% of students enroll in college and career programs and participate in performing arts. The staff includes dedicated faculty and support services personnel, such as social workers and counselors, who work to create a welcoming environment for a diverse population.

The school is located at 345 Brook Ave in the South Bronx. It sits on Brook Avenue, less than a quarter of a mile from People's Park and Brook Park. The location is also within a short walk of Junior High School 30, Head Start, and the United States Post Office. NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, Belvis is situated approximately a quarter of a mile from the campus.
