Age-Friendly Teaneck

Age-Friendly Teaneck is a senior care initiative in Teaneck, New Jersey, dedicated to helping residents age in place within their homes and community with dignity and independence. Founded in 2016, the organization works across civic, religious, and business sectors to improve livability for people of all ages, with a focus on expanding affordable housing, enhancing transportation and pedestrian safety, increasing access to health and social resources, and supporting local businesses in serving older adults. The program operates through five task forces addressing housing, transportation, communication, health, and business engagement, and is part of a growing international network supported by AARP and the World Health Organization. Based at 60 Bergen Ave, Age-Friendly Teaneck serves the broader Teaneck community and surrounding Bergen County areas, offering free programs and resources to seniors and individuals with disabilities.

The initiative is guided by a dedicated team led by Executive Director Elizabeth Davis and includes Project Director EJ Vizzi, Project Coordinator Janice Dorman, and Communications Director Colleen Diskin, supported by an active advisory board and community liaisons from the Teaneck Public Library, Township Social Services, and Bergen County Division of Senior Services. It is partially funded by the Henry and Marilyn Taub Foundation and administered by The Bright Side Family, a nonprofit serving older adults in Teaneck. The organization collaborates with local partners and participates in statewide networks focused on senior care, including the Grotta Fund for Senior Care. Through public events, newsletters, and tools like a housing navigator and home safety checklist, Age-Friendly Teaneck promotes awareness and access to vital services.

The organization has earned recognition for its community-wide impact, including a 2021 operating grant from USA TODAY NETWORK’s A Community Thrives initiative. It has also been instrumental in positioning Teaneck as the first Bergen County community to join AARP’s Age-Friendly Network. By fostering inclusive planning and engaging residents across generations, Age-Friendly Teaneck strengthens the social fabric of a community where aging is supported and valued.
