Descendants of early settlers of Mays Landing planted the vineyard, which has been in operation since the early 1900s. Savo Balić, a former vine-grower from the Adriatic Sea, migrated to the United States. In 1966, he acquired the 57-acre vineyard to fulfill his desire to bring a European accent to the American winemaking scene. His ancestral knowledge enabled the production of wines of superior quality. In 1993, Savo's nephew, Bojan Boskovic, arrived from Europe to carry on the family tradition. Bojan was born and raised in Belgrade, the capital of the former Yugoslavia. He is a descendant of the Montenegro principality. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and worked part-time in two of Yugoslavia's biggest wine companies. He started his first business in 1990. Bojan works side-by-side with his uncle as the wine technologist, combining his European winemaking knowledge with Mr. Balić's expertise.

Now in its 60th year, the winery has remodeled its buildings, upgraded its equipment, and expanded its product line with new releases. It is open seven days a week.
