The resort was established in 1975 by Tom and Claire Brodesser, who developed the site of a former mining operation into a destination campground. The founders toured many Northeastern campgrounds to create the perfect layout, centering the design around a 3 1/2-acre spring-fed lake, Pool #1, the Pavilion, and the main playground. The original 295 sites, now known as the Commodore's Quarters, opened in the summer of 1975. Expansion continued with the addition of the Captain's Quarters in 1984 and a lake expansion in 1988 that added 1 1/2 acres, bringing the total to five acres.

Currently, the resort is run by the second generation of the founding family, with the third generation also employed on-site. The owners live at the campground year-round to address camping needs. The property maintains oversized sites designed to accommodate large park models and slide-outs that evolved into camping cottages and second homes. These units often feature double lofts, microwaves, fireplaces, flat-screen TVs with HD cable and internet, and screen room enclosures. Seasonal campers are considered the backbone of the business.

The campground has been voted a top unforgettable RV camp spot in New Jersey. It is located within an easy driving distance of New York, North Jersey, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Delaware.
