Doane Academy is a Preschool in Burlington, NJ, located at 350 Riverbank. Lower School students apply the engineering design process, while Upper School students engage in open-ended, collaborative class structures. Students begin the study of Spanish language and culture in PreKindergarten, experiencing the language through listening, speaking, reading, and writing in language-rich classroom environments.

Doane Academy’s mission includes a commitment to maintaining character and leadership development as a priority equal to academic achievement. The School Family program connects students across all grade levels to encourage empathy and a sense of community. Required Strong Ethical Leadership courses help students recognize their academic studies as part of building character. Each September, the school year begins with “Rocks, Roots and Wings,” an outward-bound style program that lasts three to four days and is designed to stretch students and cultivate social and emotional growth. The school year also opens with a tradition where the senior class arrives by canoe on the Delaware River to be welcomed by the entire school community.

Founded in 1837 by Rev. George Washington Doane, Doane Academy is the only pre-K through 12th grade Episcopal day school in New Jersey. The campus rests on the banks of the Delaware River and features the Chapel of the Holy Innocents, built in 1847. Erin Pike Mayo became the Head of School in the fall of 2023, leading a faculty and staff dedicated to every student’s unique potential. The school serves about 240 students and is thoroughly diverse, welcoming students of all faiths. Doane Academy uses the Standard Application Online for admissions, with a priority deadline of February 1st.
