Mathison Architects holds a rating of 4.70 based on 560 reviews.

The firm, also referred to as MMA, builds its work around a collaborative, human-centered design process. Each project begins with questions and feedback, then moves through examination of the surrounding environment and a close look at how a space will be experienced hour by hour. Residential work focuses on elevating daily life at home, while commercial work centers on creating environments that reflect an organization's values and culture. Renovation projects emphasize integrating new design with what already exists, and interior design work connects a client's culture to the texture of their surroundings. The firm's priorities are guided by five stated values: Extend, Own It, Tune In, Be Authentic, and Adapt, reflecting a culture that values community engagement, persistence, honest collaboration, and flexibility.

The office is located at 560 5th Street Northwest in Grand Rapids, MI 49504, Suite 405, and can be reached at 616-920-0545. The firm operates across several regions including West Michigan, Northern Michigan, Lakeshore, the Hudson Valley, the Berkshires, and New England, and works in markets spanning residential, adaptive reuse, workplace, hospitality, nonprofit, and education.

A 2021 project for Glen Lake Community Schools in Maple City, Michigan illustrates the scope of the firm's work: team rooms totaling 4,000 square feet and a 1,000-square-foot Gateway Building, part of a summer package that also included a new bus garage and an eight-court competition tennis complex with a central shade pavilion. The team rooms include locker facilities, officials' locker rooms, training space, public toilets, and covered gathering areas, with clerestory natural light and natural materials such as glu-lam beams highlighting the project's connection to place.

A strong local reputation, reflected in 560 reviews and a 4.70 rating, points to a practice that West Michigan clients have returned to across residential, commercial, and institutional work.
