The Medical Education and Research Institute (MERI) is a non-profit teaching and training bioskills facility founded in 1994 by Memphis neurosurgeon Dr. Kevin T. Foley. MERI promotes health and welfare by supporting quality medical education, hands-on training, and research in all areas of medicine for healthcare professionals. It is an accredited organization that adheres to rigorous standards established by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB). MERI is a non-profit member of the Memphis community and is committed to the inclusion of all members, ensuring no discriminatory treatment, harassment, or injustice.

MERI facilitates state-of-the-art, hands-on educational courses for physicians, nurses, paramedics, and other health professionals from across the country and around the world. The facility is located in the heart of the Memphis Medical District. It features six bioskills labs for use in education and research. The site includes an auditorium with a seating capacity for up to 85 people and a multi-disciplinary room with seating for up to 65 people.

The Genesis Whole Body Donors make the work of MERI possible. The Genesis Program coordinates whole body donation in Memphis and across the surrounding region. These donations provide medical learners with authentic hands-on experience. The MERI Mobile Education Team supports sponsors anywhere in the continental United States and Canada. The team can set up labs in convention centers, surgical facilities, or any other area providing sufficient space, light, and power. This mobile lab is a fully functional 560 sq. ft. facility that can house up to ten stations. Experienced staff provide complete service including set-up, lab support, and clean-up. The mobile unit offers the same quality equipment found at the Memphis location and can accommodate any tissue type necessary for education and research needs.

As a non-profit organization, MERI reinvests all earnings back into its operations to maintain and maximize the potential of its resources. The organization honors the wishes of Genesis Whole Body Donation Program donors to further scientific advancements through the gift of body donations. This work leads to medical innovations and new technologies for improved patient care.
