About Green Fields Nursery & Landscaping Company of Baltimore

Green Fields Nursery & Landscaping Company is a Landscaping business in Baltimore, MD, located at 5424 Falls Rd Terrace. It serves the local community with a unique selection of trees, shrubs, perennials, houseplants, soils, supplies, and garden essentials. Its expert landscaping division provides professional design and installation services to help outdoor spaces thrive year-round. The business holds a rating of 4.60 based on customer reviews.

Established in 1923 by August Dubbert, the nursery began as a small-scale grower of rare and unusual plants in Mount Washington, where Dubbert helped popularize Aucuba japonica 'Variegata' in the area. The business relocated to the corner of Falls Road and Northern Parkway in the early 1940s and was later led by August’s son, Louis Dubbert, who expanded the operation into residential and commercial landscaping and was known for hybridizing daylilies. In 1986, Jim McElroy and Jerry Dobbyn purchased the nursery, initiating a period of growth focused on sharing horticultural knowledge. General Manager Peter Bieneman joined in 1988 and later earned his Master of Landscape Architecture in 2001, now responsible for researching and purchasing all plant material. Nursery Manager and Designer John Russell, who joined in 2002, heads the houseplant department and manages inventory.

The business offers an outstanding selection of specimen trees, native plants, evergreens, azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias, and roses, with new shipments arriving weekly. In 2005, major renovations added showrooms for year-round retail, including a festive Christmas shop stocking fresh-cut trees, wreaths, and decor. Beginning in 2024, a seasonal second location opened on Stevenson Lane in Towson to serve holiday shoppers. The landscaping division remains a cornerstone of the business, led by Landscape Coordinator Kathleen McElroy and Operations Manager and Designer Jim McElroy, Jr., alongside designers Kathi Shea, Michael Lemmon, and Craig Zissel, who also heads the perennial department.

The business is recognized for its positive rating from the customers who have reviewed it, reflecting the trust built over more than a century of service. This reputation is supported by the expertise of its long-standing team and its deep roots in Baltimore’s gardening community.
