For seventy years, Albert F. Fitzgerald and his family have served installers and family-owned flooring stores in Greater Boston and New England. Albert and his brothers began setting ceramic tile in the Boston area in the 1920s. In the early 1950s, Al founded the company to sell tile from a garage behind his house in Somerville, MA. He quickly moved to a warehouse and showroom down the street and, in the early 1960s, set up shop outside Somerville’s Davis Square. The company entered the import business, beginning with mosaic tiles from Japan, and established branches in Portland, ME, and Bedford, NH. In 1978, Fitzgerald Tile opened its Woburn, MA location. In 2019, the company opened its current warehouse and showroom in North Reading, MA. As of July 2024, Fitzgerald Tile is 100% Employee Owned through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
