Founded in 1882 by cousins James B. Edwards and Michael W. Edwards, the funeral home began alongside their local livery and stable. Before formal chapel facilities existed, the family held wakes and services in their own residences while maintaining a storefront office on Main Street. Following Michael’s passing in 1904, James assumed sole leadership and opened the area's first dedicated funeral facility on Pearl Street in the late 1920s. Joseph F. Edwards, James’s son, joined the business in 1925 after graduating from Holy Cross College, taking full leadership in 1930 and serving for over six decades. In the mid-1970s, Joseph’s sons, James D. Edwards and Joseph F. Edwards Jr., joined the family calling. Both brothers earned degrees from Holy Cross College and trained at the New England Institute of Anatomy & Applied Sciences in Boston.

After James D. Edwards retired in 2014, Joseph F. Edwards Jr. became the sole caretaker of the home. A licensed funeral director and embalmer, Joseph is a 1974 graduate of Holy Cross College and a 1975 graduate of the New England Institute of Anatomy, Sanitary Science, Embalming & Funeral Directing. He is a lifelong Milford resident and a longtime member of the Milford Chamber of Commerce. Joseph has also served on the Board of Directors of the Milford Federal Bank, the Friends of the Milford Senior Center Inc, the Milford Water Company, and the Milford Rotary Club. The staff consists of dedicated and licensed professionals available for immediate assistance at any time, ensuring every detail is managed to ease the burden on grieving families.
