Windy Knoll Winery

Windy Knoll Winery is a family-owned winery in Vincennes, Indiana, located at 845 Atkinson Rd. Owned by Rick and Gwen Lesser, the business began as a hobby in 1994 with 32 grape vines and home winemaking. Between 1994 and 1998, an additional 700 vines were planted. In 2000, the couple decided to start a commercial winery, purchasing 37 acres of farmland in the spring of 2001. To date, 14 acres have been planted on a rolling, wind-swept knoll in the Wabash Valley. The winery officially opened for business on June 15, 2002.

The winery produces ten types of wines from its own vineyard, plus six more from grapes grown in the local area. Eight of the wines have won medals at the Indy State Fair Wine Competition. Specific offerings include Windy Knoll Red, a smooth sweet wine with rich berry flavor that won an Indy State Fair silver medal; Cabernet Sauvignon, a full-bodied red with layers of black cherry and dark chocolate; Vidal Blanc, a crisp white that finishes like a chablis; and Late Harvest Seyval, a sweet wine made like ice wine. The tasting room is open daily from noon to 6 p.m., Monday through Sunday. State law requires customers to be 21 or older to purchase wine, and shipping is to Indiana addresses only.
