Osteria Rago is a restaurant in Bloomington, IN, located at 419 E Kirkwood Ave. Established in 2018, this authentic Italian restaurant is housed in a converted 1880s carriage house tucked down a quiet alley between 5th (Kirkwood) and 6th street, just west of IU Sample Gates. The space is rustic and intimate, designed to let the food speak for itself with seasonal, intentional dishes meant to be shared. The restaurant is proud to be voted Bloomington's Favorite Italian restaurant.
The menu features house-made pasta crafted fresh daily with locally sourced, organic ingredients. Appetizers include a rotating charcuterie board, Fischer Farms beef and pork meatballs with pomodoro sauce and fresh mozzarella, bruschetta with tomato, basil, garlic, and balsamic reduction, tomatoes with VestaFire-roasted cherry tomatoes and lemon ricotta, polenta with truffle oil marinated mushrooms, and burrata with prosciutto di parma and apricot mostarda. House-made focaccia bread is also available. Salads and soups offer choices such as the Caesar, Caprese, and Chopped salad, with add-ons including chicken, shrimp, and salmon. Sandwiches like the Big Al feature Genoa salami, mortadella, prosciutto cotto, and prosciutto. Osteria Rago also sells fresh pasta, ravioli, and sauces at Bloomingfoods West and East Store.
In addition to dine-in service, Osteria Rago offers take out and catering for special occasions. For to-go orders, customers can call (812) 822-0694. Reservations can be made via OpenTable or by calling (812) 822-2033. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 9pm, with seating ending at 8:45 pm.
