The history of the location dates back to 1967, when James D. Laughlin worked in partnership with Robert L. Ciuferi at Edwards Funeral Home, providing ambulance and funeral service to the Troy community. In 1968, Jim purchased the funeral home and ambulance service in its entirety from Mr. Ciuferi, operating under the name Edwards Funeral Home until 1973, when the name was changed to Laughlin Funeral Home. Jim and his wife, Rosemary, raised three daughters while living in the upstairs of the funeral home for the next 20 years. Rosemary passed away in December 1989. Jim subsequently married Deborah Kowalski Nemsky in December 1990. Various remodeling upgrades took place over the years, culminating with an entire renovation in the fall of 2001. Negotiations to purchase Laughlin Funeral Home from Jim Laughlin began in the Spring of 2007, culminating on January 11, 2008, when Guideon Richeson became the owner. Guideon Richeson is the youngest of five children, grew up in De Soto, Missouri, and has a degree from Mortuary School in Louisville, Kentucky. He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1989 by Wallace G. Wilkinson, Governor of Kentucky. His 23-year association with Service Corporation International began at Kriegshauser Mortuary in St. Louis.
