Village Vineyard & Winery was founded by Gordon and Brenda Cantrell, who began making wine as a hobby in 1997. Gordon was introduced to winemaking by his brother-in-law and became interested in the process of fermenting fruit into wine. In 2001, the couple planted three acres of grapes on their land near Camp Point, initially selling the harvest to local wineries. As grape production in the region declined, the Cantrells decided to start their own retail winery. Family and friends have played a central role in the vineyard’s operations, including planting, harvesting, and maintaining the grapevines.
