The Glunz family’s journey began in 1871 when Louis Glunz, a 17-year-old from Wesphalia, Germany, arrived in Ellis Island and eventually settled in Chicago. After working as a deliveryman for a local brewery, he secured a business loan from Charles H. Wacker in 1888 to open a wine, beer, and spirits merchant shop on Wells and Division Streets, a location still active today. Over generations, the family expanded its operations, eventually establishing a winery in Paso Robles, California, in 1992, where the third and fourth generations focused on producing small-production, estate-driven wines. The winery now spans 40 acres in the rolling hills of Paso Robles, where the 2025 harvest has concluded and blending and bottling of 2024 wines are underway.
