The Glunz family story began in 1871 when Louis Glunz arrived in Chicago from Wesphalia, Germany. He worked as a deliveryman for Wacker & Birk, a brewery owned by Charles H. Wacker, who later provided a business loan. In 1888, Louis opened a wine, beer, and spirits merchant shop at Wells and Division streets. The business expanded to include a tavern, bottling its own beer and wines, and supplying German taverns along Lincoln Avenue. In 1893, Louis became a bottler of Schlitz beer for the World’s Columbian Exposition. In 1992, the third and fourth generations of the family opened a winery specializing in small-batch fortified wines. The winery operates on 40 acres in Paso Robles, California, focusing on small-production, site-specific wines from estate vineyards on the Central Coast.

The Grayslake tasting room is open Tuesday through Sunday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The Paso Robles location is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and features an outdoor setting with private picnic areas, bocce courts, and a putting green.
