The business traces its origins to 1950, when Ed Meyer, Jr. and Gayle Meyer purchased a one-room house and four acres of land on 47th Street in Moline, Illinois. They initially operated as Meyer’s Flower Farm, selling wreaths and grave blankets at Christmas for the nearby cemetery. After renovating the house, the business moved into the kitchen and garage, selling rose bushes, tulip bulbs, and iris. The operation expanded into a landscape and nursery business, and in 1974, a separate office and warehouse were constructed. The name changed to Meyer’s Tree Farm as the business acquired additional land for growing nursery stock.

In the mid-1970s, Jack and Kurt Meyer joined the family business after graduating from the University of Illinois with majors in horticulture. The company acquired a 140-acre farm in the Taylor Ridge area to support its growing landscape operations. Janet Carlson joined the business in 1987, and by 1988, the Moline office had expanded to include six landscape designers and an irrigation manager. The company continued to grow, acquiring another farm in 1992 and remodeling the Moline location in 1999 to create additional offices and a redesigned Garden Center with individual display areas. The name was updated to Meyer Landscape & Design Inc.

The business maintains a knowledgeable staff of designers, horticulturists, irrigation designers, and lighting specialists. They offer personal on-site consultations to tailor landscape designs to specific homes or businesses, with detailed plans and elevations available to guide both professional implementation and do-it-yourself projects.
