Founder Joe Aurelio began with a small storefront featuring four tables and a kitchen with a single pizza oven. In the early years, pizza was a relatively new concept, and Joe initially sold only six or seven pizzas daily. To sustain the business, he served home-cooked Italian beef sandwiches. He worked seven days a week as cook, waiter, and delivery driver, building customer loyalty over time. By 1962, expansion became necessary. Joe rented two adjoining storefronts at 2045 Ridge Road, formerly Shreiber’s Hardware. The new space included a kitchen and bar for adults and smaller groups, while the other half accommodated parties and teenagers with a jukebox, large picnic-style seating, and red-and-white checkerboard tables.
