The Children’s Center of Cicero-Berwyn is a private not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) registered charitable organization chartered in the State of Illinois. Founded in 1978 by Patricia Makris, the organization began serving 28 children at one location in Cicero and has grown to eight locations in Cicero, Berwyn, Stickney, and the surrounding communities. The center currently serves more than 950 families. It offers programs for prenatal-to-3-year-olds, 3-year-olds to 5-year-olds, and school-aged children, along with parenting support. All center-based programs are licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The center provides educational, play-based childcare, full and half-day Head Start, and Preschool for All classrooms, as well as home-based child development and parenting programs. All programs are bilingual in English and Spanish.

The organization is led by Executive Director Bina Habibi, D.Ed., who has over 20 years of experience with the agency. Dr. Habibi holds master degrees in Child Development, Special Education, and Education, and a doctoral degree in Ethical Leadership from Olivet Nazareth University. She holds a National Director Credential, an Illinois Director Credential Level 3, and Illinois Professional Licensure. She serves as an adjunct faculty member at Northeastern Illinois University in the Teacher Education department, sits on the Illinois AEYC Public Policy committee, and is a member of the Early Childhood Education Advisory Board at NEIU. Margaret Gasteier serves as Site Director and has been with the center since 1988.
