Run by the Ahern family for four generations, Cassidy Tire traces its origins to 1892 when Hugh Cassidy and his son William opened a livery service on the Near West Side of Chicago. The business initially rented hearses, livery wagons, and horse teams. After Hugh’s death in 1899, his son Will took over, retiring in 1930 to leave the company to his nephew, Hugh Ahern. Hugh Ahern led the company through the Depression and World War II, employing his six sons who learned the trade in the 1950s. These sons later joined the business and opened new stores in the western suburbs. The company moved its main location to downtown in 1970, with the Canal Street location serving as the hub for three decades.

Today, the fourth generation of Aherns guides the area’s largest independent tire dealer. The network includes 17 retail locations throughout the Chicagoland region, from Chicago to Crystal Lake, Peru, and Pontiac. All locations maintain a rating of 4.5 stars or higher. The Addison location operates Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 5:00pm and Saturday from 6:30am to 12:00pm. The business also operates as Chicagoland’s largest wholesale tire dealer through its TireTrader program.
