The company traces its roots to October 1935, when Mr. and Mrs. E.E. White began their business in Twin Falls. Mr. White had previously sold Maytag washers in Utah, Colorado, and Nevada, earning a reputation as the "Maytag Man" in Ely, Nevada. After the Maytag Company shifted to wholesale operations and closed its retail stores, Mr. White worked for O.G. Bates, who became a co-founder of Wilson-Bates Furniture. This partnership prompted the Whites to move to Twin Falls, where they opened a branch of the Nevada store and purchased it a year later. The family continued to expand, purchasing the Ely, Nevada store in 1955 and the Elko location in 2013.

Wilson-Bates has operated as a family-run business since 1935. The enterprise is now managed by the Whites' two sons and their daughter, with the next generation of children also involved in operations. Mr. White retired in the late 1970s, and Mrs. White worked until her health required her retirement in 1983. Beyond retail, the business identifies as a social-purpose entity, aiming to impact individuals, families, and even wildlife. It supports community outreach through partnerships with organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club, The Salvation Army, Idaho Food Bank, Pet Shelters & Clinics, Valley House, Safari Club, The College of Southern Idaho Scholarship Fund, United Way, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Hospice Visions, Red Cross, National Wild Turkey Federation, St. Luke's Foundation, Toys For Tots, Sportsmen For Fish & Wildlife, and Special Olympics.
