Albany Area Primary Health Care

Albany Area Primary Health Care is a medical clinic in Albany, Georgia, serving patients across Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Dooly, Dougherty, Lee, Mitchell, Randolph, Sumter, Terrell, and Thomas counties. The organization has cared for southwest Georgia since 1979 and is the region's largest Community Health Center, providing health care services to more than 50,000 patients. Care teams include physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurse midwives, supported by clinical staff, laboratory personnel, and business office professionals. Services span Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Podiatry, General Dentistry, Vision Care, Behavioral Health, and Pharmacy Services, along with School-Based Health Centers for students, families, and faculty. Aesthetic and Wellness Services in Albany include treatment for acne, facial injections, hormone replacement therapy, weight loss treatment, and vaginal rejuvenation, led by Dr. Stacia Dzikunu, Dr. Sheena Favors, and Laura Copeland, FNP. Two Mobile Access Care Units bring primary, specialty, and dental care to communities and can be scheduled for events to provide medical screenings and immunizations.

The organization was formed as a nonprofit corporation under Georgia law in November 1979, following a merger with the Lee County Primary Health Care Council. Its Board of Directors traces in part to a first advisory council formed in July 1978 during planning. By November 1982 it had grown to three primary care centers offering adult and pediatric medicine, dentistry, individual and family counseling, social work, and case management. All qualifying medical offices are recognized as a Level III Patient Centered Medical Home by the National Center for Quality Assurance, the highest of three levels. After-hours coverage is available, with a physician reachable by phone for adults and children. Free mammography and Pap screenings are offered to qualifying patients.

The clinic is located on Westgate Drive, about a quarter mile from Dawson Road and Whispering Pines Road, and roughly half a mile from the Northwest Public Library, Sherwood Park, and Hawthorne Park.

Albany Area Primary Health Care has built its standing on more than four decades of continuous service to southwest Georgia, combining primary care with specialty, dental, vision, behavioral health, and pharmacy services under one organization.
