Coalition of Immokalee Workers

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers is an IT support provider in Immokalee, Florida. It holds a rating of 4.20.

The organization operates as a worker-based human rights group recognized for its work in social responsibility, human trafficking, and gender-based violence at work. Its efforts grew from farmworker community organizing that began in 1993 and a national consumer network created in 2000, expanding over more than twenty years into three overlapping areas of work. In 2011 it launched the Fair Food Program, a model for Worker-driven Social Responsibility built on a partnership among farmworkers, Florida tomato growers, and retail buyers. Under the program, the organization conducts worker-to-worker education sessions held on the farm and on the clock, covering the labor standards in the Fair Food Code of Conduct. A third-party monitor, the Fair Food Standards Council, conducts regular audits and handles complaint investigation and resolution. Participating buyers pay a Fair Food premium that growers pass on to workers as a line-item bonus. The program expanded in 2015 into tomatoes in Georgia, FL, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, and New Jersey, as well as Florida strawberries and peppers. Beginning August 1, participating growers must provide electrolyte beverages or supplements to workers year-round, adding to existing protections that include shade, clean drinking water, paid rest breaks, heat illness training, and the right to seek medical attention without retaliation. The organization has received a MacArthur Fellowship, a Presidential Medal, a Clinton Global Citizen Award, and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Freedom From Want Medal.

It is located on South 2nd Street, a short distance from West Main Street and Immokalee Road, and about a tenth of a mile from Zocalo plaza, the Collier County Tax Collector, and the Collier County Sheriff's Office Immokalee Substation District 8.
