The Literacy Council Gulf Coast

The Literacy Council Gulf Coast is a tutoring service in Bonita Springs, Florida. This 501(c)(3) non-profit organization provides free instruction for adults and children to improve English language and reading skills. The organization serves a diverse community, including residents from San Carlos Park, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Sanibel, and Naples. Their specialized services include Adult Literacy, which covers English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), GED preparation, U.S. Citizenship test preparation, and computer literacy, as well as Family Literacy programs such as the Moms & Tots program and the Kids+ Lifelong Learning Initiative.

The organization has been assisting students with literacy skills since 1989 and was formed in 2011 through the merger of Literacy Volunteers of Lee County and the Literacy Council of Bonita Springs. The council operates by training a dedicated team of over 500 volunteer tutors to provide both one-on-one and group instruction. In addition to individual and family programs, they offer Worksite Literacy programs designed for businesses and gated communities to invest in employee development.

Located on Old 41 Rd, the main campus is situated near the Bonita Springs Public Library and Everglades Wonder Gardens. The facility is also a short drive from Bonita Springs Middle School and the Lee County Sheriff's Office Bonita Community Policing Annex.

The Literacy Council Gulf Coast is recognized for its extensive community impact, having served students representing 45 different countries. Their commitment to empowering families and individuals through education is reflected in their long-standing history of service in Southwest Florida.
