The couple has lived and worked in the SF East Bay Area for the past 15 years. They first met at Homeroom Mac + Cheese in Oakland in 2013, where Bryan served as General Manager. Wingen Bakery began in 2020 as a cottage bakery run from the Wingen family’s home. This arrangement allowed the family to care for their newborn daughter, Waylynn, who had been diagnosed with Zellweger Syndrome, a terminal genetic disorder. The cottage bakery license enabled them to provide extra income while staying home with her.

The business quickly gained a following and sold out every week at the Livermore Farmers Market after joining in the Fall of 2020. After Waylynn passed away at 8 months old, the Wingens paused operations. They returned to baking with a focus on sourdough, finding comfort in the therapeutic process. In June 2021, they opened their brick-and-mortar location in Downtown Livermore at 50 S Livermore Avenue, taking over a space from a local bakery that was selling its business.

The Wingens are dedicated to continuing the bakery in their daughter’s honor and giving back to the community. In May of 2025, they completed a renovation to expand their capabilities.
