This 2,400-acre historical landmark in the San Gorgonio Pass region began as a stagecoach stop along the Bradshaw Trail in the mid-1800s. Dr. Isaac William Smith established Smith Ranch in 1853, and it became Smith Station, a key stop for mail and passenger travel between Southern California and the eastern nation. In 1884, a Los Angeles company purchased the property and built the Highland Home hotel, planting the first cherry trees in the area. Fred and William Hirsch later bought the site in 1927, renaming it Highland Springs Resort and developing it into a health resort based on the vegetarian and juice fasting philosophy of Professor Arnold Ehret. Albert Einstein was a regular guest in the 1930s.

The ranch is home to 123 Farm, a 20-acre certified organic farm that never uses pesticides, artificial fertilizers, or harmful chemicals. The farm grows over 100 varieties of lavender, vegetables, herbs, and certified organic livestock. The site hosts five annual festivals, including Lavender Nights, which features lights and lavender under the stars, and Christmas Nights, which displays over one million lights. Meals during these festivals are prepared by the Grand Oak Farm to Table team.
