In 1911, he brought his wife Maria and their family through Ellis Island, settling in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, where they opened a Fruit Market. The family moved to Lansing in 1915 and then to Mount Pleasant in 1919, where Gennaro and his sons Frank A. and Joseph R. established the Fabiano Fruit Market as a retail and wholesale store. In 1923, the company acquired the rights to distribute Stroh Near Beer in a two-county territory. Following Gennaro’s death in 1930, Frank and Joseph continued the business, beginning regular beer sales after Prohibition was repealed in 1933. In 1934, the company moved to a warehouse on Franklin Street and started a long partnership with Anheuser-Busch. After a fire destroyed the Franklin Street warehouse in 1965, new facilities were built on North Mission Street in Mount Pleasant. The company was incorporated in 1969, with Frank A. Fabiano, Sr. elected President.
