The business provides routine hygiene and wellness care for dogs, focusing on essential health maintenance rather than just cosmetic styling. Additional offerings include blow-drying, brush-outs, haircuts, sanitary and pad trims, and specialized treatments like deep conditioning, shedding reduction, antifungal shampoos for skin issues, dremel filing, and anal sac expression. The company serves all dog breeds and offers three membership options designed to meet routine hygiene needs, with members saving 25 percent. Customers benefit from technology-based wellness tracking and regular six-point S.C.E.N.T. health checks accessible via the Scenthound App.

Founded in 2005 by Tim and Jessica Vogel, Scenthound began as a mobile dog grooming service before expanding to grooming salons. The founders observed that many dogs were not receiving the basic hygiene needed to stay clean and healthy, leading to the creation of a model that prioritizes routine care over traditional, often unnecessary, haircuts. This approach is based on the understanding that nine of the ten most popular breeds, including Frenchies, Labs, and Golden Retrievers, do not require haircuts but still need essential care. The business emphasizes that routine hygiene is preventive care, supporting overall health and helping to prevent infection and mobility issues. Services are packaged so customers only pay for what they need, with pricing for the Basic Hygiene service remaining the same for every dog regardless of size, breed, or age. Add-ons and services like blow-drying are priced based on coat length and condition.

The facility maintains a safe, calm environment using positive reinforcement techniques and structured handling to reduce stress and build confidence, particularly for dogs unfamiliar with grooming. Technicians pause or stop services if a dog becomes overly stressed, ensuring safety always comes first. The business provides tailored services to any package, including blueberry oatmeal scrubs for facial staining and weightless deep conditioners for matting. Appointments are designed to be efficient, allowing owners to drop off their dogs for errands and return to a fresh, clean pet. The company educates dog parents on the importance of basic hygiene, aiming to change how people think about caring for their pets.

Scenthound holds a 4.70 rating based on customer reviews.

By combining affordable, transparent pricing with a specialized focus on preventive hygiene, Scenthound provides Birmingham dog owners with a reliable solution for keeping their pets healthy and comfortable.

Scenthound sits on Doug Baker Boulevard in Birmingham, Alabama, near Cahaba Valley Road and the Greystone YMCA, both roughly half a mile away.
