The company began in January 1990 when Ron Bailey, along with his parents Ruth and Coy, started a small used furniture store called A-1 Discount Furniture on Tudor Road. Nine months later, they moved into the old Anchorage Roller Rink at Arctic and Benson, where they began selling new furniture in a 20,000-square-foot space. In July 1993, the business became Bailey's Furniture, adding partner Mike Bailey and a new store in Wasilla. That same year, the company aired its first television commercial featuring 7-year-old Buddy Bailey. In September 2005, the Anchorage Superstore opened, described as the largest furniture store in Alaska. This location features the largest indoor waterfall in Alaska, a play area for children, complimentary gourmet coffee, and pleasant music. By 2008, the store expanded to Fairbanks, renovating the old Tip Top Chevrolet building on Cushman Street to serve interior communities. Bailey's Furniture works with local organizations such as the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association, the Boys & Girls Club, the First Samoan Body of Christ Church, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Hospice of Anchorage.
